At SHIFT, we believe there is merit in going beyond the current patterns of corporate social responsibility and giving back in different, important ways. We believe it’s time to stretch further, set the bar higher, and make a shift. Period.
Over the past 15 years, we have partnered with more than 100 organizations and contributed more than $1MM in time, talent, and treasure.
It all started in 2002 with the launch of our Bb4students program, a not-for-profit that was one of the nation’s first social enterprise models in the corporate mentoring space.
Our model rested on the belief that giving back shouldn’t be free.
We partnered with well-known companies like Constellation Energy, DAP, The Daily Record, Sylvan Learning Center, and Under Armour. They made a financial contribution to our cause, and in return, got to mentor Baltimore City’s at risk youth.
In just 4 years, we personally worked face-to-face with more than 100 high school students and successfully shifted the average graduation rate from 55% to 100%. In 2006, we merged with a local not-for-profit with a national footprint (and brand recognition) with high hopes they could help us scale our dream. Unfortunately, this merger failed.
But we marched on.
We believe the world’s greatest issues can and will be solved by people with the courage to shift the purpose of business. We believe this starts with us. We’re going ALL IN to change the world for better.
On September 25th 2015, world leaders enthusiastically adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all, as part of a new 15-year agenda. We were there, in both body and spirit.
These 17 initiatives represent the bedrock of SHIFT’s triple-cornerstone impact: our mission, the SHIFT 10X Effect, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
We believe business can be a spark to ignite change, and that if we shift the work world, we can begin to transform the real world.
70% of the American workforce is disengaged, sleepwalking through their business hours. Since we spend one-third of our lives working, what would happen if all that effort started to mean something again?
We’re on a mission to shift the lives of millions of people to create a 70% engaged workforce.
We’re committed to giving back in a mission-driven way that integrates impact into every transaction. We’ve rallied the most dedicated team of Warriors, committed to significance as a way of life and then sourced, shepherded, and spread our assets locally, nationally, and globally.
We’re going above and beyond to help those in-need, under-served, and underprivileged.
Imagine if every time you say yes to growing your organization, a village in Ethiopia receives access to life-saving water, reducing the child mortality rate from water-borne diseases.
Imagine if every time you hire an industry rock star to join your team, a young student in Cambodia receives a bicycle to pedal out of poverty and receive an education.
Imagine if every time a new member joins our invite-only business network, a 3-day training session in Afghanistan, to protect human rights and civic education, is funded.
Imagine if every time you strengthen conscious venture capitalism in West Baltimore, you catalyze peer-learning sessions for social entrepreneurs in India.
We’ve stopped imagining, and started acting.
We believe in a lasting footprint.
We believe in major giving.
We believe in world-changing impact.
These are not mere aspirations at SHIFT–they are reality.
Better you. Better us. Better all.
We’re going to keep growing our businesses. We’re going to keep expanding our impact. We’re going to keep helping millions of people.
We have an official Chief Impact Officer leading the charge!
Each of our committed Warriors has their own impact goals that tie into both our mission and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. And they’re held accountable to them.
We’re measuring it all – because how we show up for our community, our country, and our world is inherently important to us. We want to give back in a major way, using a framework that far surpasses the one-for-one mentality of existing CSR models. One just wasn’t enough for us, so SHIFT 10X was born.
